Magnetic Particle Testing
Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) is used to evaluate the integrity of ferrous materials in items such as structural welds on bridges, storage tanks, or safety-critical structures. It is used to locate discontinuities at or near the surface of these ferromagnetic materials by applying high-permeability magnetic powder to the test area, which results in magnetization. The powder is attracted to flaws by magnetic lines of force and left where there are discontinuities. Because flawed areas, such as incomplete fusion, slag, or cracks cannot hold as many lines of magnetic force as solid ferromagnetic material, the magnetic material is left at the discontinuities at and above the material's surface.
The advantage of Magnetic Particle Testing is that the indications resemble the actual flaws. The professional technicians at Titan Inspection will ensure the appropriate method is used to fit your testing needs.
